About Nancy

Nancy LaFond relocated from Nashua, New Hampshire, to Matthews in 1996.  Not one to shy away from a challenge, Nancy accepted an appointment to the Mayoral Task Force on Education in 1997. After serving four years, and upon the dissolution of the Task Force, Nancy was appointed to the Matthews Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee for two consecutive two-year terms, with her last three and half years served as Committee Chair.

On behalf of the Advisory Committee, Nancy worked with the town’s Parks and Recreation department and Mecklenburg County on the Greenway design and strived to reduce the concerns of residents, obtained the funds necessary to develop the Sportsplex, suggested the idea of a department mascot, extended the summer concert series by one month and included movies, and represented the town at these venues when government officials were not present.

Nancy was then appointed to the Mecklenburg County Therapeutic Recreation Advisory Committee, which she served on until 2008.

Additionally, Nancy is a former committee chair of Cub Scout Pack 214 sponsored by Matthews United Methodist Church.

Nancy is a current member of the Matthews Women's Club, the Matthews Kiwanis Club, and the Matthews Civitan Club.

Nancy is the office manager and senior paralegal for the Vann Law Firm in Matthews.  She has two children, Stephan, 20, and Mitchell, 17.  She also works as a proofreader and editor for select businesses and is a Certified Personal Trainer.

Nancy is also known for singing the national anthem at local events, including the opening ceremonies for Special Olympics Spring and Local Games, the Charlotte Knights, and the former Charlotte Hornets.

Nancy’s philosophy is to continue to be a “strong voice” for the residents of Matthews and believes that everyone has issues that go unheard.  You can reach Nancy via e-mail at nancy@nancylafond.com or by phone at 704-877-1412 with any questions or concerns about Matthews.
